What is it?

“Widening access is about increasing opportunities for people from a diverse range of backgrounds to benefit from higher education“ (HEFCW)

Why do it?

It is vital for the promotion of social justice and a buoyant economy for Wales. The University of Wales Trinity Saint David is committed to removing barriers to Higher Education, whether they're physical, social, cultural or financial.

How do we do it?

  • By working with external partners such as schools and colleges to deliver outreach projects which aim to raise aspirations, build confidence and increase progression to higher education
  • By implementing University-wide measures to improve attainment and to provide support for pupils from local Communities-First areas and other groups without a strong tradition of participation in higher education.
  • Through our in-house Widening Access work within the University to help support entry and retention
  • By employing Student Ambassadors to help deliver activities
