University Lecturer and award-winning poet Menna Elfyn Awarded PhD

Last week, one of Wales’ most well-known poets and University of Wales Trinity Saint David lecturer, Menna Elfyn graduated with the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD).

Dr Elfyn, from Llandysul is Director of the Masters Programme in Creative Writing at the University and was awarded the PhD in Professional Practice for her published work which spans over 35 years.

An internationally acclaimed and multi-award winning poet and playwright, she writes on being a woman, politics and identity, love and passion, nature, people, spirituality, language and the process of writing poetry.

She is also author of over twenty books of poetry and has published children’s novels and educational books, numerous stage, radio and television plays, as well as libretti for US and UK composers. Moreover, the National Opera Company of Wales will perform her latest work (with music from Dr Pwyll ap Sion) in 2012.

Dr Elfyn has travelled the world as poet and teacher and is much in demand. She will return to India before the end of 2011 and will visit New York early next year. She is also honorary fellow of the University of Wales Trinity Saint David.
