Students from Japan visit University

20.08.2011

Welcome to 19 Students from Shizuoka University of Arts and Culture (SUAC) in Hamamatsu in Japan are here to spend 4 weeks enjoying an English Language and British Culture summer school at the University.

During their stay the group will visit tourist attractions in Swansea, Cardiff, Pembrokeshire, Aberystwyth as well as London.

The link between the University and SUAC has been developed over many years. SUAC is based in Hamamatsu City which is overlooked by the snow capped Mount Fuji.

Dr Heita Kawakatsu, former president of SUAC said

“Shizuoka University of Art and Culture was established in central Hamamatsu, where it is working closely with the city to encourage cultural development, the promotion of universal design and the realisation of an international city open to the world”.

The summer school at the University was developed to improve the English language skills of SUAC students as well as to enable them to experience two of the UK’s cultures and languages.

International Officer, Kathleen Adnum, added:

“The link with SUAC has been developed over many years and we were very pleased to welcome the students here for a Summer School. We hope that they will return next year but also that the link will develop to provide other study abroad opportunities”.
