Work-based Learning Programme

Lateral - Accreditation of Prior Learning Lateral

(Liberating Aptitudes by Technology Enhanced Recognition and Accreditation of Learning)

Employees across Wales are experiencing unprecedented levels of job insecurity which can lead to reduced performance at work.

Giving your team access to qualifications through work based learning already acquired, can pay dividends in terms of motivation and performance. It is also a valuable opportunity for employees who could be future leaders in your organisation.

The LATERAL project is a fully funded 15 credit module on Recognition and Accreditation of Learning. The module enables a learner to claim up to two-thirds of a higher level qualification (e.g. degree/masters) through utilising their work- based experience.

What’s involved?

There are 4 elements:

  1. a pre-induction psychometric test
  2. one induction day
  3. reflective essay (between 3000-5000 words)
  4. portfolio of evidence

How much does it cost?

There is no cost. This is fully funded for those who are eligible. (See the small print)

What do businesses think?

‘For me, its core value is in academic and professional recognition of the years of study, research and effort that have brought me and my business to this point of knowledge, experience and expertise’.
Nigel T Packer, Owner
Business for Business Internet Marketing Ltd

"WBL is an excellent opportunity to continue with my studies, whilst still working full time and allows me to spend time with my young family rather than having to do evening classes.

I was worried about how the content of my job could be translated into a higher level qualification. Lateral is structured and easy to follow. It helped me to identify all the processes within my job and how to focus on the areas of learning within these that I could reflect on and develop. At the same time helping me and my company to improve methods and approaches for our future."
Selina Jones, Sales Manager
Axium Ltd

“I was so delighted to find that so many of my previous qualifications and work related experience could be taken into account and that I could now study towards my M.A. in Professional Practice via distance learning, as this will benefit my career progression”
Catherine Rowland, E-business Project Manager
CBSA
