Playing Around with Film

15.11.2010

Staff from the University of Wales Trinity Saint David have been working with RAY Ceredigion, and children and young people from Ponterwyd and Penparcau to explore play through film.

The University’s School of Art, Film and Media and Widening Access Unit worked in partnership with RAY Ceredigion to make films based on Ceredigion County Council’s Play Strategy.  The aim of the project was two-fold: to provide an opportunity for young people to gain skills in scripting, directing and shooting a short film and to provide a visual version of the County’s play strategy.

RAY Ceredigion is a registered charity working in partnership with Ceredigion County Council to support out-of-school childcare clubs and open access play in communities across the county.

The final films include an entertaining horror movie, news of some spooky goings-on in the Ponterwyd area, as well as children's views on what play in their community means to them.  All films are included on a compilation DVD of the project.

All the young people involved in the project were presented with Certificates of Achievement by University Pro Vice Chancellor Meri Huws at a special awards ceremony and viewing of the film attended by Keith Towler, Children's Commissioner for Wales, and Ceredigion County Councillor Carl Williams.
