Passing of mother prudence

At Ffresh, the Moving Image Festival of Wales, Chris Marsh, a graduate from the BA Film Studies and MA Screen Studies won the Best in Show award for his film "The passing of Mother Prudence".

Established in 2002, Ffresh celebrates the best work being created by the up-and-coming moving image talent from around the world through a programme of screenings, panel sessions, masterclasses and workshops, which are open to all members of the general public and students throughout the UK.

At a wake a mother’s bereavement leads a child to explore her grandmother’s room only to find that there is something waiting for her in the wardrobe. The film has a compelling sense of drama to grip the viewer as the narrative unfolds and the shocking secret of what is in the wardrobe is revealed. Category juror Euros Lyn said:

“Loved the David Lynch esque horror. Really creepy. Would have loved more narrative. The distorted sound was rather brilliant. Fantastic sense of drama and horror of what’s in the cupboard.”

Chris was also short listed at Glimmer, the Hull Film Festival in 2011 for a documentary made at Manchester Airport regarding the Plane Spotters.

Caroline Thraves, Head of School of Creative Arts said:

“This year, our students achieved 5 shortlisted pieces in 4 categories and we are extremely proud of their work and were delighted to see their qualities being recognised by the industry judges in competitions in Wales. Our students, past and present, continue to produce outstanding work with a commitment to innovation, storytelling and entertainment whilst bridging theory and practice for contemporary audiences.”
