As with all three programmes, the emphasis is on the practical; developing and training practitioners; musicians; producers and performers. There is a definite bias towards the vocational and practical aspects, and the School is looking for students who are willing to take risks, develop and challenge themselves creatively.

Iestyn Llwyd, senior lecturer and admissions tutor in the School,

"Media, music and performance have a long and strong tradition in the University. A high proportion of our graduates are now working and making a living within the professional creative industries - with some obvious and familiar faces on our screen and stage. Others have built on the skills developed at the School, and have been able to venture into areas other areas.

We enjoy a good reputation and a high profile due to the flurry of activity in art, cultural and creative events held here, and students from the School play a  clear in that success."

In addition to the Welsh context, the new degrees also aim to broaden horizons by offering students the opportunity to undertake a period of study abroad, including a semester in the United States. Staff are great believers in this type of experience in terms of personal development of students.

Employment

To try to improve graduate employment and career opportunities in areas which continue to be highly competitive, these new programmes aim to develop a range of creative and valuable transferable skills. Students are given every opportunity and encouragement to develop their creative talents, and learn how to use and relate them across several types of platforms, media and genres.

During the launch, there will be an opportunity to enjoy the work of students from the School, including performances, film work and musical compositions. Visitors can also speak with members of staff.
