The lecture, entitled ‘A Sustainable Wales? What will make it real?’ will take place at the e-coleg on the Green Field, at the Eisteddfod in Llandow on Monday 6 August at 4.30pm and will address some of the fundamental questions the Welsh Government will need to answer as it determines how to take their legislative commitment forward in a way that garners public acceptance.
Maes Gwyrdd is a three acre zone of ecological, creative and educational content , on the main field of the Welsh National Eisteddfod, and will include lectures and debates on "green" topics at the e-Coleg throughout the week.
Ms Davidson is passionate about the environment and resource efficiency and has been given a number of accolades for her work. According to the Independent on Sunday, she was the third most influential environmentalist in the UK in 2009. She was also named as Resource magazine's number one environmentalist in 2009, and second in 2010, for her work on waste, which has seen Wales come from behind the rest of the UK to be the lead recycling country in Britain.
Ms Davidson is now Director of INSPIRE, (Institute for Sustainability Practice, Innovation and Resource Effectiveness) at the University. She is a keen walker and was delighted to be elected President of Ramblers Cymru in the same year the 870 mile All Wales Coast Path opened.
Ms Davidson said: "This is a vision about taking control of our future and our children’s future. It is a vision that is achievable, but not with the mindset we use now. Our systems need to change to encourage sustainable innovation. If the proposed Welsh Sustainable Development Bill legislation could ensure that people taking individual and collective action that contributes towards more sustainable living are encouraged and unsustainable actions discouraged, then it has an opportunity to redefine Wales as a nation committed to a sustainable future.”
