Lady Elizabeth Craven

craven Driven from England by cuckolded husband Lord Craven, society hostess and playwright Lady Craven went to live in France. Between 1783 and 1786 she travelled in Italy, Austria, Poland, Bulgaria, Russia, Greece, and Turkey. In 1789, with encouragement from Horace Walpole, she published A Journey through the Crimea to Constantinople in which she describes customs, and landscapes. She caused controversy by pronouncing Lady Mary Wortley Montagu's favourable account of Turkey to be a forgery.[Next]
