Welcome
We offer a range of undergraduate degree schemes covering all aspects of Greco-Roman antiquity. We also offer a broad range of part and full-time postgraduate degrees and certificates available both residentially and at a distance.
The standard of teaching in the School, always a noted strength, has been deemed ‘excellent’ in the most recent Teaching Quality Assessment.
We pride ourselves of our lecturer-student relations. This ensures detailed guidance about courses throughout your stay here. We are all enthusiasts, and we hope that our enthusiasm for the Classics will provide you with the basis for a life-long interest in the Classical World.
We have a thriving undergraduate student body of all ages and backgrounds, undertaking a range of single and joint honours degree courses, that include Classics, Ancient History, Classical Studies, and (with the School of Archaeology, History and Anthropology) Ancient History and Archaeology and Ancient and Medieval History.
The School also has a fast developing postgraduate student body, both residential and working at a distance, the latter’s growth a reflection of our strong commitment to reaching students beyond the immediate campus. Thus, as well as the traditional, campus-based Research and Master’s degrees, the School offers its PhD, MPhil and MAs at a distance, as well as Postgraduate Diplomas in Greek and Latin.
Since 1994, the School has also run a highly successful Summer Workshop in Greek and Latin, during which small-group tuition is provided in both Greek and Latin at beginners, intermediate and advanced levels.
Participants come from all over the world, from all academic backgrounds and all age groups.
