About the school

The University of Wales Trinity Saint David has on the Carmarthen campus over a 160 years experience of offering physical education, sport and outdoor related courses.

More recently, these have expanded to include degrees in health, exercise and nutrition.

The School of Sport, Health & Outdoor Education currently offers the following undergraduate programmes:

Sports centre

There is also a well established postgraduate MA/MPhil Outdoor Education programme and a newly validated MA Physical Education which is being offered in 2012.

The School has invested heavily in the latest health and fitness assessment technology to support the undergraduate courses, ‘A’ level workshops and INSET, and a community health and fitness programme. In response to local and student demand the School recently broadened its degree portfolio to include nutrition as a main focus within the BSc Health, Nutrition and Lifestyle programme.

The newly re-validated BSc Health & Referral also includes vocational qualifications such as Personal Trainer, Gym Instructor and GP Referral as part of the degree. There is a similar ongoing programme of investment in Outdoor Education, with the recent purchase of a large number of mountain bikes, open canoes and sea kayaks adding to our large store of well-maintained and top-of-the range equipment which enables us to take full advantage of the seas, mountains, rivers, caves and crags which are easily accessible from the Carmarthen campus.

Skiing Vocational relevance is a strong theme underpinning all degrees and students are strongly encouraged to gain additional experience and qualifications to support their career aspirations. Work placement begins in the very first term and is developed further in the second year.

There is also an opportunity to undertake an international exchange for six months in the USA or Norway (Outdoor Education) during the second year.
